How do I get to Chiang Mai from Sukhothai?

By Car: Commercial traffic, i.e. buses, drive West on Route 12 to Tak, and then North on Route 1 to Lamphang. From Lamphang continue another 90 KM North on Route 11 all the way to Chiang Mai.
An alternative, and more scenic route, is to drive in a NNE direction to Uttaradit (Rt. 1180 is a good choice) and continue in a WNW direction toward Lamphang on Rt. 11. Continue another 90 KM on Rt. 11 all the way to Chiang Mai.



By Bus: Air-Conditioned buses depart Sukhothai for Chiang Mai every hour between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

The trip will take approximately 5 hours by bus, and about 4 hours by car – faster if you drive like a maniac.
